From September 19 to 20, Scheherazade Jewelers will showcase an exceptional assortment of colored stones set in one-of-a-kind jewelry designs. The Galleria-based jewelry store’s partner for this two-day event is Spark Creations, a designer known for colored stone jewelry designs of uncommon and uncompromising quality.
Fine diamonds are rare and have a high value based on each gemstone’s exceptional nature. But many colored stones are just as rare and perhaps rarer than diamonds. Tanzanite is a relatively new gemstone (discovered in the late 1960’s) that can only be found in a single source: the Mererani Hills of the Manyara Region of northern Tanzania.
Paraiba Tourmaline, up until about a decade ago, could only be found in the state of Paraiba, Brazil. Now deposits similar to the copper-bearing Brazilian tourmaline can be found in Mozambique. But even with a secondary source the “electric blue” color of this tourmaline variety – especially in sizes of one-carat and larger – is extraordinarily rare. Also, in 1997, Christie’s sold an Imperial Jade necklace for nearly $10 million. When cut and polished well, Imperial Jade (in a rich green color similar to emerald) can sell for millions of dollars per carat.
About Spark Creations
Spark Creations was founded in 1972. The New York City-based company has established itself as a premier designer of fine jewelry set with exceptional colored gemstones set in truly stunning designs. The company’s tagline says it best: “When it comes to color, nobody does it better!”
For Spark Creations, “top quality” are words that simply start the conversation about the designer’s incomparable colored gemstones set in uniquely elegant jewelry designs. The designer gives new meaning to the remarkable nature of one-of-a-kind gemstones set in designs that combine modern dimensions while still embracing timeless styles.
Sourced throughout the world, colored gemstones set in jewelry by Spark Creations are as exotic and unusual as the places these rare beauties are discovered. Known for unparalleled jewelry designs for today’s discerning women, Spark Creations has earned many industry awards and accolades. Although Spark Creations is best known for exceptional colored stones, the designer complements these rare gems with diamonds (fancy colors and white diamonds) of equal quality, beauty and rarity.
Scheherazade’s Color Collection
At Scheherazade’s, there are a number of incomparable jewelry designs from Spark Creations. Here’s just a sample of the incredibly rare jewelry that is part of the store’s two-day trunk show.
Paraiba Tourmaline – in its signature electric blue color – is extremely rare in sizes of one-carat and larger. That’s one of several reasons this ring is such a special piece of jewelry featuring a 2.18-carat Paraiba Tourmaline. Sourced from Mozambique the African nation has been a lucrative source for fine Paraiba Tourmaline for more than a decade.
Tanzanite brings together the colors of two treasured colored gemstones: the purple of amethyst and the blue of sapphire. Mined in a four-kilometer square area near Mount Kilimanjaro, tanzanite is so rare that it has its own grading system among gem traders. Roughly 1 percent of tanzanite mined is AAA quality. Top colors are rarely found in sizes larger than 3 to 5 carats making this 10.58-carat tanzanite ring a noteworthy piece of fine jewelry.
Scheherazade’s has many rare and exceptional jewelry designs, but this ring set with a 13.94-carat Prehnite is truly a historic piece. This little known colored stone – even among gemstone aficionados – rarely forms in crystals that can be faceted or even fashioned into cabochons. Mainly found in Australia, Prehnite has pearl-like luster appearance to it.
In rough form, tourmaline is found in elongated crystals. As many gem cutters will admit, tourmaline is a difficult colored gemstone to cut, especially in larger sizes of 3 to 5 carats. Commonly found in Africa, this 6.60-carat green tourmaline was discovered in Brazil. Its source, color, size and clarity make this a remarkable gem.
Topaz is well known with London Blue and Swiss Blue colors. But in the same family of gemstones is Imperial Topaz. As the name implies, Imperial Topaz has a regal golden brown to gold color to it as well as warmer hues. This rare pinkish red 11.26-carat Imperial Topaz is a crowning achievement to Scheherazade’s colored stone jewelry collection from Sparks Creation.
Moonstone has out of this world qualities to it, especially in blue hues. Rarer still are true blue moonstones in larger sizes such as this 9.64-carat beauty. Flanked by blue sapphires this ring is an excellent sample of moonstone’s desirable blue colors.
With August as one of the leading birth months, it’s no wonder so many people know and appreciate the lush green of peridot. But you don’t have to be an August baby to appreciate this ring set with a 6.82-carat peridot and diamond accents.
This stunning array of jewelry from Sparks Creation concludes with a dramatic drop pendant set with a 6.36-carat yellow beryl. Hailing from the family as emerald, this lovely yellow beryl is complemented with yellow sapphires and diamond accents.
