Scheherazade Jewelers is launching new sterling silver jewelry from Officina Bernardi. To celebrate the new collections the Galleria-based jewelry store is hosting a three-day trunk show event with the Italian designer from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29.
A Look Back at Italian Metal Working
Lovers of Italian metal work appreciate the craftsmanship, level of detail and cutting-edge designs associated with Italian jewelry. But many don’t know the history behind Italy’s modern-day position as one of the world’s leaders in gold and silver jewelry designing. Italy’s history with metal working dates back to the Bronze Age. By 86 B.C., Rome expanded its control to much of the Mediterranean and North Africa, bringing much in terms of control and trade of mineral wealth to Italy.
Roman conquests also brought about gold and silver mining from ore-rich European countries with Spain and Portugal topping that list. The Italians not only honed methods of working with lesser metals for military, commercial and practical applications, they became more proficient at mining and producing precious metals. This long history is chronicled through archeological digs starting in the early AD centuries as well as Italy’s mastery of producing coins. With the exception of the modern Euro, the florin was one of the most used coins of its kind in European history starting in the 13th Century and ending in 1861 when the lira was introduced.
Officina Bernardi Part of Italy’s Jewelry History
Italians are deeply and distinctly proud of many aspects of their culture and their industry. The most commonly heard phrase describing Italy’s proficiency in jewelry production is know-how. Combined with creativity and innovation, these are the distinguishing qualities of Officina Bernardi jewelry when compared to other Italian silver jewelry designers. These have been the guiding principles of Officina Bernardi since the company’s founding by Carlo and Francesco Bernardi.
Before starting Officina Bernardi, Carlo and Francesco were co-owners of Chrysos, a leader in the manufacturing and export of gold and silver chains at an international level for 25 years. Officina Bernardi isn’t just new to Scheherazade Jewelers it’s new to the gemstone and jewelry industry. The two brothers quickly established the brand as a leader in the jewelry retail market. And, Officina Bernardi US LTD is the exclusive distributor of this unique silver jewelry.
Officina Bernardi Jewelry
At the heart of all Officina Bernardi’s innovative designs is 925 sterling silver. What’s unique about the Italian designer’s production is white metal jewelry is electroplated with platinum. Any Officina Bernardi jewelry that is yellow or rose in color is electroplated with 18K gold. These added layers of higher end precious metals gives Officina Bernardi a rich, luxurious look but at prices that are more affordable than many might think.
Another inherent quality of Officina Bernardi jewelry is its patented “moon cut,” which gives the designer’s jewelry a glittering effect – almost like the light of a diamond. Of course the designer’s signature collection is the Moon Collection. Like all lines of jewelry by Officina Bernardi there is a range of Moon Collection bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants and rings in different sizes and lengths. And, precious metal colors include white, pink, black, yellow and two-tone jewelry.
The Slash Collection is noteworthy for its beads. When produced together, beads with different reflections create a mixture of lights and shadows. Factor in color choices of white, pink, black, yellow and two-tone, and the Slash Collection becomes an incredibly versatile accessory, from work day to night play.
The Tube Collections is an extension of the Moon Collection. Beads from the Moon Collection feature alternating tubes of precious metal for a minimalist and streamlined look. Tube Collection jewelry also features gents jewelry.
The last of Officina Bernardi’s top four collections of jewelry is the Gothic Mars Collection. Much like the Moon Collection, Gothic Mars jewelry is made up of bead designs, but beads from the latter collection are oval versus round. Mars Gothic beads also feature honeycomb faceting to catch and reflect even more light. Some pieces in this collection combine Gothic Mars Collection beads with Moon Collection beads.
Mimosa is another collection that is completely made with sterling silver and only electroplated with yellow gold. Just in time for spring, this collection is inspired by floral designs and celebrates not just the transition of the seasons, but also the “femininity of all women,” according to the designer.
Scheherazade Jewelers is the exclusive Twin Cities’ retailer for Officina Bernardi jewelry. Officina Bernardi jewelry is already available in the Galleria-based jewelry store. During the trunk show event from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29, look for expanded collections and special savings of up to 20 percent on event purchases.
